10 things to thank #LinkedIn for (finale)

turkey1I write this reflection every year on the LinkedIn changes and ideas I deem most worthy of comment.

Any day is a good day to give thanks but with Thanksgiving Day coming, I have accumulated these top 10 things to be thankful for (and I hope you agree over the next few days’ postings):

10. Finally, and most deservedly of all, thank all of you 3167 times (as many as my current LinkedIn connections) but also a mention is due to thank my 5185 (and growing) LinkedIn followers, for being there to read my postings, comment and share them, and for offering advice and answers when I ask.

As I always say, “my network is my net worth” and once again you made my work so far this year, so rich and so rewarding in all my business pursuits.

Onward to more LinkedIn evangelism in 2020!

I wish you all a bountiful and happy Thanksgiving. I’ll be back on Monday.

9. Thanks LinkedIn, for providing me another platform to educate. My new online e-course for baby boomers and other mature workers seeking the next step in their careers, using LinkedIn, is the only course of its kind.

May I suggest either of my 2 books on Amazon, or the above-mentioned and/or my other LinkedIn e-course for nonprofit professionals? These ideas may just solve your need to find a unique holiday gift–zero calories and it won’t be regifted—but it will help the recipient remember you as a generous, collaborative friend!

It’s me talking to the reader about how to make your brand better using LinkedIn to express why you do what you do.

Sound like a good gift?

8. Thanks, LinkedIn for adopting Twitter’s hashtag concept, thus greatly expanding my reach to “ping” on similarly interested people’s mental radar screens when I use at least 3 hashtags at the end of a post or sharing my thoughts on top of others’ published material.

7. Thanks, LinkedIn for reviving the Events section to publicize events and seminars I hold on a wider scale than ever before. I missed it when you took it away a few years ago. I am so glad it is back!

6. Thanks, everyone for continuing to keep the discussion on LinkedIn nontoxic and nonpolitical in an increasingly polarized tribal world. It’s a credit to our professional community that we maintain such high quality and appropriate business conduct in the global LinkedIn conversation.

Join me in calling down political noise on LinkedIn, please, because it’s only going to get more noxious in 2020?

5. I am still not a fan of the artificial section titles you created In Skills and the way LinkedIn sorts my skills into those sections is really wonky, so once again, I plead: LinkedIn, perhaps you can give us a say in how this works on our profiles? Huh?

Thanks.

While I am at it, thanks to all those who have endorsed my skills.

4. This year I adopted ProFinder to open myself up to offers to bid on consulting gigs that may pertain to my skillset. Thankfully, I receive at least one offer per day and while I have yet to find the perfect fit, it does keep me in the running for opportunities I might not normally be offered, so ProFinder is a win-win, as I see it.

  1. Thanks, LinkedIn, for providing a global workspace where over 645 million professionals can share ideas, information, articles and interact better every year. This year was highly successful as a result of opening myself last year to include connecting with competitors who wish to cooperate: “coopetition” as I call it.
